A Grand Reopening Celebration

The reopening feels like a grand opening for employees and businesses that have been impacted by the hurricane. According to Kathy Burnam, Marketing and Events Manager, the reopening aligns perfectly with the holiday decorations already in place.

“What a perfect day to have the opening with all of our Christmas decorations that are pretty much nearly in place,”

“It gives people a lot of encouragement. It will start the season for them very well, and it’s a big deal,” said Burnam.

Businesses Impacted by Hurricane Milton

The storm left many businesses, including Captain’s Landing and King Fisher Fleet, temporarily closed.

Ralph Allen, owner of King Fisher Fleet, shared that the storm was difficult for his staff, but their boats escaped unscathed.

“It’s a traumatic experience for all of our staff. I believe all of our staff stayed with us through that month. It was a miraculous event for our boats. We have not a scratch on a boat, and in Punta Gorda in the boating department, that’s saying something. We got very lucky.” said Allen.

Troy Young, owner of Captain’s Landing, described dealing with storm surge damage and power outages.

“It took a long time to get us going here, but we’re happy to be opening tomorrow in time for season,” said Young.

Turning Downtime into Opportunity

During the closure from October 8 to October 31, employees took the opportunity to revamp and upgrade the property.

“While we were down for a month, we took that opportunity to do some upgrades and put fresh coats of paint on things here and there that we probably wouldn’t have had a chance to get to that quickly, so we try to take some advantage to our downtime,” said Allen.

Just in Time for Snowbird Season

The reopening coincides with the start of snowbird season and the holidays, which is a critical time for the local economy.

“There are a lot of people anxious to be able to join us back here again,” said Allen.

Fishermen’s Village for Sale

In addition to reopening, Fishermen’s Village is also up for sale through a ‘call for offers’ process. The property, managed in receivership by PGFL Associates LLC and SVN Commercial Partners, was listed after former owner Jonathan Larmore defaulted in June 2023.

“This is an unprecedented waterfront investment opportunity,” said Margeaux McCarthy, Sales Agent for SVN Commercial Partners.

The deadline for offers is September 2, though negotiations may begin earlier if sufficient offers are received.

New Ownership, New Possibilities

The sale is targeting buyers who aim to preserve the charm and success of Fishermen’s Village.

“A new owner is crucial to the environment and our community here in Punta Gorda. The culture in Punta Gorda is very unique and charming, and we want Fisherman’s Village to continue with that wonderful success they’ve had throughout the years.” said McCarthy.

The property’s future gained clarity after Punta Gorda’s City Council denied an extension request to improve two parcels of land, retaining the city’s option to reclaim the land through a reverter clause.

A Resilient Comeback

Fishermen’s Village stands as a symbol of resilience, overcoming hurricane impacts and legal uncertainties to continue serving the Punta Gorda community. As Burnam expressed:
